Restoration

East End Historic House (Fire)

Congdon Park, Duluth, MN

Project Summary

A fire affected the interior, exterior, structure and all four stories of this house. The owners wanted to restore the house’s historic nature and upgrade energy efficiencies. We worked together with the owners, subcontractors and vendors to create the perfect final product.

Details
  • Took the house down to the structure; an engineer updated the structure throughout.
  • Refurbished dining room built-in cabinets, leaded glass doors and hardware, and re-used them with new custom rebuilt cabinet.
  • Rebuilt two brick fireplaces.
  • Installed Pella Architectural Series energy efficient triple pane glass windows to match the historic house style.
  • Used plaster veneer board instead of drywall to reflect the original plaster/lath look and feel.
  • Large trim was locally custom milled to match the original.
  • Installed high density spray foam insulation in the wall and roof cavity.
  • Hardwood flooring and ceramic tile throughout.
